As promised, I have gathered the “top 30” essays from this site into a single readable and printable file. The file has been posted to the home page and can be accessed by clicking on this highlighted link. Feel free to download, print, send, and share. This version replaces the one posted and then removed earlier. If you have that older file, please replace it with this one.
The file has been formatted for printing on 8 1/2” by 11” pages with a front and back cover, table of contents, bibliographic essay, etc. I have had a few copies printed and bound at the university’s print center here, and am pleased with the outcome. It looks like a 150-page book!
A word on copyright. This is copyrighted under the Creative Commons process, as described at the bottom of page 1 in the file and on the Creative Commons website, meaning it can be shared or reused freely with attribution and for non-commerical purposes only. This just means no using any of this in anything that will be sold or used to make money. I fully support the Creative Commons process as a means to increase communication and the sharing of ideas. Several figures in the this file, especially those from Wikipedia pages, were available for my use (with attribution) because they were posted under the same Creative Commons copyright - hence I am not selling this book or having it published commercially. It is free.
Many of the images in this file also come from government sources, especially from NOAA and NASA. As said in many of these essays, we all owe a huge debt of thanks to all the scientists and technicians who create the amazing data sets and graphics to be found on those sites. All that invaluable information is automatically in the public domain. The data archive posted here earlier is intended to preserve and make available many of those data sets.
So I hope you might find this book useful and interesting. Only some light editing and updating has been done to the original essays as posted on this site. The format has been changed to fit the book look.
